Location:
400 Daniel Boone Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508
Description:
Are the wintertime blues getting you and your kids down? Then join us at the Daniel Boone Homestead for our Fireside Tales and chase those blues away! Storytelling was a great way for families in the eighteenth century to pass the time during the long, dark winters. During our Fireside Tales, Homestead Friends and volunteers will read a few stories geared toward young children ages 4 – 8 and their families in the rustic atmosphere of the Wayside Lodge.
On February 5, children will take part in traditional storytelling as they hear stories about Pennsylvania German and English life and heritage in the eighteenth century. We will make sure to have a nice, cheerful fire going in the fireplace in the Wayside Lodge but it will still be quite chilly inside so remember to dress warmly and bring a few extra blankets or quilts to relax on and snuggle under! Suggested donation $2.00 per child. Complimentary light refreshments will also be provided. Forget about Old Man Winter for an hour or two and spend an afternoon with your family at the Daniel Boone Homestead!
Please visit our website for more information: www.danielboonehomestead.org.

“Journey to a Dream: A Program of African American History”
Come celebrate Black History Month at the Daniel Boone Homestead! This year’s annual program will feature noted presenters John and Lillie Foster. You don’t want to miss this intriguing presentation! John and Lillie both grew up in the south and experienced firsthand much of what will be portrayed in the “Journey.” This is a journey that spans the time from slavery to emancipation to nonviolent protest to the extraordinary prospect of an African American as president of the United States. The story will be told using music, poetry, and drama. John and Lillie first performed this presentation at the Women’s Club in Reading in February 2009. Lillie and John are owners of Foster Voices; the firm’s major focus is personal and organizational development through coaching, improving presentation skills, and training. John and Lillie have been members of Toastmasters International for more than thirty years.
Staff will be offering guided tours of the Boone House as well throughout the day. Visitors can also take a self-guided walking tour of the historic outbuildings including the blacksmith shop, barn, and smokehouse. In addition, the 1st Pa Regiment will be offering flintlock shooting demonstrations at the rifle range from 12 to 3pm. Join us for this one-of-a-kind winter program!
Program will take place in the DeTurk Education Center. Suggested donation $2.00 per person. Additional fees for guided and self-guided tours of the Boone House and historic area.
